Megatrend: Resource Efficiency

At Evonik, sustainable development is always regarded as an integrated part in the process of business operation and management. Our broad product portfolio, which comprises various products and solutions for resource efficiency, has been widely applied in many industries, such as automotive. There are over 30 kinds of products from Evonik, which contributes to the lighweight construction for energy efficiency. For example, we developed high performance polymer products with lighter weight to replace heavy metal parts in cars and airplanes,in order to save the fuel consumption. Evonik has also produced the high performance lithium-ion battery with smaller volume, higher power and improved safety features. We are now in cooperation with Daimler for industrial production of high-tech batteries to realize the vision: the car of future goes with electricity. Evonik is piloting in the area of biodiesel too. We provide alcoholate, the catalyst to biodiesel, which could not only increase the output of oil, but also produce a side-product with comparative economic value in the process. Green tires made of new organosilane from Evonik, with lower rolling resistance, can save the fuel consumption up to 8% under the same performance conditions.
