Energy shortage, lack of resources and environment pollution has become a bottleneck for economic development all over the world. Meanwhile, there is an increasing demand for healthier, higher quality life. Against this backdrop, low carbon economy and energy efficiency have become the common topics for all of us. The Chinese government aims to reduce the ratio of GDP to CO₂ emissions in 2020 by 40 to 45 percent compared to that of 2005, as it is a binding long-term national target for China’s economic and social development. Industries related to energy saving, emissions reduction, and pollution prevention also sets off an unprecedented "Green Evolution". The chemical industry has become one of the important industries of CO₂ emissions raised by high energy consumption.

As a leading specialty chemicals company, Evonik is committed to address these challenges by managing our operation in a responsible way and provide products and solutions that help our customers to realize sustainable development.

In the company, Evonik strengthens the control of CO₂emissions via business operation and management. Some years ago, we established the Operational Excellence team to identify measures for continuous and sustained productivity improvement, as well as the energy efficiency. The aim is to ensure that every kWh of electricity, and every kg of raw materials are not wasted. Now, the team has already inspected 23 sites in Germany and worldwide, from which the management of energy efficiency at each site is analyzed. In addition, more than 200 related optimization projects were implemented timely. Through these projects, the factory will be able to save an average of 5 to 26 percent energy, and reduce CO₂ emissions among the Group.

On the other hand, transforming advanced chemical technology into energy saving products and processes is the greatest contribution Evonik can make for customers, community and low carbon economy. Therefore, Evonik offers innovative products and solutions to address the challenges facing the world. We are committed to make continuous contribution to low carbon economy and society in China.

Infrastructure construction and building materials
Evonik provides environmental-friendly coating raw materials and additives, resins and high-performance plastics, etc. for the construction industry, such as exteriors, roofs, road marking and noise barriers. Automotive Industry
The core competences and expertise of Evonik in automotive industry are emission reduction and energy saving, surface technologies, lightweight design and lighting technologies. These advantages make the car lighter, faster and more environmental friendly. Addressing the new challenges of automotive industry, especially the increasing demand for energy efficiency of passenger cars and electric cars, Evonik provides an integrated innovative solution, ranging from improved raw materials to R&D support. Renewable energy and green manufacturing process
Evonik puts great emphasis on the development of alternative energy products and renewable energy products. For example, in the photovoltaics industry, PLEXIGLAS® molding compounds are high quality PMMA specialty products for concentrated photovoltaics. Evonik's carbon black pigments provide good electrical conductivity and excellent insulation for wire and cable, which can minimize the energy loss. Evonik is committed to developing more energy-efficient production processes, and continues to optimize them. Animal Feed
Like vitamins, amino acids are essential to human and animal life because all proteins are built up from them. Evonik is the only company in the world to produce and market the four most important amino acids for the advanced animal nutrition: DL-Methionine, Biolys® (L-Lysine), L-Threonine, and L-Tryptophan.
